Government Funding
Recruiting an apprentice is one of the most cost-effective ways to grow your workforce. Recent government funding changes mean that many employers can now access even greater financial support when hiring apprentices.

Funding for Non-Levy Employers (SMEs)
If your organisation does not pay the Apprenticeship Levy, you could receive significant government support.
Apprentices Aged 16–24
From August 2026, the government will fully fund 100% of apprenticeship training and assessment costs for apprentices aged 16–24, up to the funding band maximum.
Your business simply pays your apprentice’s salary while the government covers the cost of training.
Apprentices Aged 25+
For apprentices aged 25 and over, the government funds 95% of the training costs, with employers contributing the remaining 5%.
£2000 Hiring Payment
From October 2026, eligible non-levy employers recruiting a new apprentice aged 16–24 may also receive a government hiring payment of up to £2,000.
The payment is designed to help businesses invest in young talent and is paid in two instalments, subject to eligibility criteria.
Levy-Paying Employers
If your annual payroll exceeds the Apprenticeship Levy threshold, you can use your levy funds to pay for apprenticeship training.
If you have unused levy funds, investing them in apprentices is an excellent way to develop skilled employees while making the most of your training budget.
Additional Employer Incentives
Many employers may also be eligible for additional financial support when recruiting apprentices aged 16–18, or apprentices aged 19–24 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or have been in local authority care.
